How it affected the world:

The War of 1812 had a profound effect on America and how the world viewed the developing nation. The War of 1812 gave most countries the idea that America was here to stay and would not be destroyed very easily. Many nations saw how America struggled to survive and realized the country would not soon leave, this idea also spread throughout America. Throughout America, the public too was divided along party lines. In Baltimore, a diverse city with strong anti-Federalist sentiment, riots broke out days after Congress voted to declare war. The Baltimore Riots of 1812 were particularly brutal as pro-war Democratic-Republicans tortured anti-war Federalists, pouring hot candle wax into their eyes and sticking them with pen-knives. In the violent frenzy, two men were murdered, making the first casualties of the War of 1812 on the streets of Baltimore, not on the battlefield. The New England area was also a stronghold of anti-war sentiment.
