Fall 2013: Yom kippur War 1973
On October 6,1973 Egypt and Syria plan a well coordinated attack against Israel on a day that will bring the defense forces of Israel and the people into a great surprise because, of the great holiday know as Yom Kippur " Day of Atonement" and is known to be the holist day in the Jewish religion. The goal of the attack was trying to win back the territory that was lost to Israel from the Arab-Israel third war in 1967.
Timeline:
10/6/73- beginning of the war/ Syrian soldiers defeat Israeli force on Mt. Hermon in northern Israel.
10/7/73 -Syria captures majority of the southern Golan Heights
.10/8/73- Israel launch their 1st attack to Egypt being unsuccessful/ Soviet Union supports Egypt& Syria.
10/9/73 reserve major general Ariel Sharon action to the counterattack towards the Egyptian against orders cause the result to his dismissal.- President Nixon U.S supplies Israel (aircraft & tank).
10/10/73- Israel recapture most of their territory Sothern Golan due to U.S military supplies.
10/11/73 Conflict between U.S & soviet " bring your troops so will I"/ Israel attack Syria at the Golan Heights.
10/12-13/73 U.S sent more arms shipment to Israel.
10/14/73 know to be one of the largest tank to tank battles.
10/16/73 Egypt request Soviet Union to seek a crease-fire to convene United Nations/Israel soldiers cross Suez Canal.
10/17/73 cut oil production until Israel withdraws from the Arab territory/six day war.
10/20/73 the Israeli mange to move 10 miles of Damascus.10/21/73 Israel forces led by reserve Major General Avraham Adan to attack Egypt 3rd army.
10/22/73 Israel capture all the Syrian position on Mt. Hermon/ United Nation call for immediate cease-fire.
10/23/73 United Nation tried to resolved the war but still failed even with the Cease-fire.
10/24/73 United Nation send out a second cease-fire but still failed between Egypt & Israel battle/the outcome cause soviet Union to threat U.S to sent soldier to support Egypt, which cause the reaction of U.S to put a higher alert with nuclear forces/ final soviet Union withdraw the next day.
10/28/73 Israel and Egypt settle/ in 25 years Israel lost about 2,500 soldiers , Syria 3,500 , and Egypt is unknown.
