Timeline

Majority of the events during the Gulf War occurred during the months of July-December. The Gulf War only lasted for a couple of months during the year of 1990. Throughout the month of August was when the attack began leading to an end in December. Both Iraq and Kuwait suffered from the war in the end causing both countries to surfer damage.

1990

July 22: Iraq developed an army for the attack against Kuwait.

August 2: Iraq attacks Kuwait and takes Kuwait’s oil fields. Iraq builds up soldiers along the Saudi border. The United Nations halts Iraq's invasion and tells not to attack any other places.

August 6: The United Nations makes a restriction.

August 7: Saudi Arabia sent troops to help stop any possible Iraqi attack.

August 8: Hussein (Iraq’s President) proclaims the takeover of Kuwait.

August 9: First U.S. armed forces arrive in Saudi Arabia. The United Nations declare Iraqi invasions of Kuwait was invalid.

August 10: Hussein announces a holy (jihad) war against the U.S. and Israel.

August 12: A Naval barrier of Iraq begins. Iraqi oil stopped.

August 28: Iraq renames Kuwait, Kuwait City al-Kadhima.

September 14-15: France and the U.K. deploy 10,000 troops to Gulf.

December 17: U.N. tells Iraq they have until January 15, 1991 to take their troops out, but the president refuses.
