Foreign trade policies, British impressment and "War Hawks" were are some causes of the war of 1812. Impressment refers to act the act in which men are captured and forced into naval service. "War Hawks" were western members of the House of Representatives who were favored war. They wanted to stop the aid to Native Americans from the British. There were a series of trade restrictions from the British to stop American trade with France because Britain was already at war with France.
