Main Events

During the Cold War NATO acted as a deterrent against aggression from other nations. After the Cold War they conducted several military operations such as Operation Anchor Guard, Operation Ace Guard, Operation Allied Goodwill 1 and 2, and Operation Agile Genie. Today, NATO helps keep the world at some kind of peace by monitoring parts of the world that are becoming known to cause trouble.

They monitor Kosovo, Afghanistan, and parts of the Mediterranean that are known for terrorists. They also perform air policing missions and support the African Union today.

Before September 11, 2001, no NATO member was ever attacked even during the Cold War. After the 9/11 attack, NATO joined in to help aid the United States.

In May of 2002, NATO and the Russia Council both signed an agreement to settle the conflicts that were risen in the past with Soviet Union.
