Hawaii Before Annexation

Hawaii was a Kingdom before it was annexed by America. But before it was a kingdom, it was a group of small islands independently ruled by the tribes living on the islands. It was not until Kamehameha The Great, the leader of the people on the big island, proposed the idea of having all the islands come together and be ruled as one. It was a challenge to get all of the tribe leaders to agree, but in 1810 the islands came together to form the Kingdom of Hawaii. The Kingdom of Hawaii survived for 88 years. During that time the monarchy made ties with the United States in trade, until being annexed in 1898.
