1889: The End of the War

-The Spanish-American War ended with the defeat of Spain. Control over their colonies was given to the U.S. despite the fact that war was a fight for the independence of the Spanish Colonies

1899: A New War Begins

-February 4. Fighting between Filipino nationalists and the American forces began. This was two days before the treaty of Paris was scheduled to be signed

-Leader of these nationalists was fighting a "conventional war" with the more experienced and seasoned American forces.

-This fighting continued to 1901.

1901: Defeat

-Emilio Aguinaldo was captured and other resistance forces in the Philippines eventually scattered.

1902: Forgiven

-On July 4th, President Theodore Roosevelt, declared general amnesty on the Philippines and ended the conflict.
