How it affected the World

The Declaration of Independence had a major impact on the United States and other nations. In the United States, it provides liberty and equality among all men and women. In fact, one of the earlier effects of the Declaration was the announcement of the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed African Americans from slavery. It also has a major affect on the Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments of the Constitution, because the latter represent examples of what was described in the Declaration that are expressed today.

Other than its effect on the United States, the Declaration of Independence also has a major impact on foreign nations. Several countries, such as France, Greece, and Russia, viewed the Declaration as inspiration as they struggle to achieve their independence.
