Key Figures during the Vietnam War

Ho Chi Minh

Ho Chi Minh founded the Indochinese Communist Party in 1930 and the League for the Independence of Vietnam, also known as Viet Minh, in 1941. After World War II, he declared a Democratic State of Vietnam and became its president. He remained president during the Vietnam war, when there were conflicts between North Vietnam and South Vietnam/United States.

Viet Minh

The Viet Minh was a Vietnamese nationalist group that was created in the 1900s, and was shaped by how western governments governed their countries and the Marxism and Communism of nearby countries.

Viet Cong

The Viet Cong was a network of spies who were being controlled by North Vietnam, but was located in South Vietnam. The name, Viet Cong, is short for Viet Nam Cong Sam, which means Vietnamese Communists.
