National Affect Fall 2013

The Annexation of Hawaii was very important to the expansion of the United States. The interest in Hawaii dated back from the 1820's. The United States bought many products from Hawaii especially sugar since the 1800's. In 1890, The McKinley Tariff was passed which made it expensive for Hawaii to export sugar to the U.S. Many sugar plantation owners were becoming poor because they weren't making a profit from their sugar. Hawaiians came to the conclusion that solving that problem can only be solved by Annexing Hawaii.
