Key Events

  • The new Hawaiian Constitution was proposed by Queen Liliuokalani. This Constitution would restore power of Hawaiian Monarchy, but it was never passed.

  • On January 1893 the Hawaiian business workers staged and uprising to overthrow the Queen. They called the United States arm forces for help, the Military was fast to respond. This forced the Queen the surrender the Hawaiian kingdom to the United States.

  • War broke in 1898 the military used Hawaii as a naval base. President William McKinley signed a joint resolution annexing the Islands, in the same manner Texas joined the union.

  • On July 7th 1898 the United States President McKinley signed a bill which resulted with the U.S annexing Hawaii.

  • Hawaii remained a territory until granted statehood as the 50th state in 1959.
