Thomas Jefferson was the writer of the Declaration of Independence and although it has a few changes, it is his own words that we read on the script today.

Benjamin Franklin helped Thomas Jefferson by editing the Declaration of Independence.John Hancock was the president of the Continental Congress and is known for writing the largest and most obvious signature on the Declaration, and to show the British he wasn't afraid of the British's threats to take him away for treason.

There were many reasons/events that happened for the successful men to write the declaration of independence, such as:

The Boston Tea Party: colonists dressed as indians stormed into the boston harbor and dumped 23 thousand pounds of tea into the harbor. British ships were bruned.

The Boston Massacre: 5 colonists killed after mob on one lone guard. The guard had called for help, someone shouted "fire" & British men shot down 5 colonists
