The United States had not been convinced that Israel could serve as the main prop to American power in the region, so it maintained ties with Arab. Eventually, the United States began to make weapon purchases ($6.4 billion a year to $9.2 billion a year) from Israel, which let them gain the "strategic asset" they had always desired.

Yom Kippur War of 1973

The Arabs started the oil boycott. We did not learn to cut our oil consumption, because the oil interest owned by the auto industry in the United States of America.
