Effect on World

The War of 1812 did not have an incredible lasting effect on the world, but it served to solidify the United States as a powerful country, capable of holding its own in the world. It also assisted to somewhat bring down the powers of the British Empire to a more manageable level, now that other countries saw that colonies could in fact rebel and defeat them.

Despite such a display, the majority of the world was untouched by the War of 1812. Aside from slight shortages and lower access to trade from the United States, the war was not a major factor to other countries. The exception to this was the French who took this as an opportunity to redouble efforts to defeat Great Britain.
