The Spanish American war all started in the year 1898. The reason for why the war started was that Cuba was struggling for their own independence. It all began February 1895. Spain announced armistice on April 9th. The US congress declared Cuba's independence and with drawl. Then Spain declared war on the United States on April 24 while the very next day United States declared on April 25th.
