How it Affected the Philippines

The Philippine/ Spanish American War had a tremendous affect on the people of Philippines and Philippines in general. This war lasted 3 years and resulted in the death of over 20,000 Filipino combatants. Also, as many as 200,000 Filipino civilians died from violence, famine and many diseases. Furthermore, America kept the country of Philippine as a territory until the end of World War II. In 1907, the Philippines convened its first elected assembly, and in 1916, the Jones Act promised the nation eventual independence.
