Monroe Doctrine of 1823

Summary

James Monroe was the fifth president of the United States. He created the Monroe Doctrine with the secretary of state John Quincy Adams. Together they made a policy that kept the European countries out of the western hemisphere. Latin Countries had just overthrown European powers and the U.S wanted them to stay free. The combination of the Monroe Doctrine and Manifest Destiny expanded further with the 26th president Theodore Roosevelt's Corollary that justified the U.S involvement with Latin countries.
