Relations with Britain after Independence
Shockingly America and Britain did't became the famous allies we are now right after independence was declared. Tensions between the two nations after the revolution grew worse during the Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815). The capture of American seamen by the British Navy was the main dispute. This lead to what is know as the War of 1812. The war was ended in 1814 by the Treaty of Ghent. The two nations disputed about Canadian boundaries, but this was settled by negotiations. The American Civil War tested the relations among the two nation because Confederate troops were firing at the Union in ships fitted in British ports. The last major relation dispute between the countries occurred in 1895 because of an American demand that Britain submit to international arbitration its dispute with Venezuela about the western boundary of British Guiana, near which gold had been discovered. The dispute was resolved quickly because neither country wanted trouble. Ever since the two countries fought side by side in World War One their relations have been positive.
