Key Figures in WWII

    • Adolf Hitler - Leader of Germany during WWII, won plenty of battles against various countries, and considered a military genius.

    • Franklin D. Roosevelt - Was the 32nd President of the United States. He was the president when the Pearl Harbor attack happened and died in the April of 1945. Harry Truman would replace him as president after his death.

    • Harry Truman - Was the Vice President of the United States when Pearl Harbor was attacked. He became the 33rd President of the United States when Franklin D. Roosevelt died and was the president when WWII ended.

    • General Hideki Tojo - He was the Prime Minister of Japan from October of 1941 to July of 1944. He was known as an aggressive army general and became the minister of for Japan in July of 1941. Japan was to try to improve their relationship with the United States, but when that failed Tojo ordered the attack on Pearl Harbor. He would later resign from his position when he realized that Japan was going to lose the war and was executed for his responsibility to Japan's war crimes when the war ended.

    • Josef Stalin - He was the actual leader and dictator of Soviet Union from 1928 to his death in 1953. Held the title of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1922-1953. His leadership was acknowledged worldwide.

    • Benito Mussolini - He was the Prime Minister of Italy from 1922-1943 until he was overthrown. He formed the Fascist party and Fascism called for a one-party state, total obedience, patriotic nationalism, and aggressive militarism. He was a close ally of Adolf Hitler and entered the side of Nazi Germany in WWII in June of 1940. In 1943 the Allies invaded Italy and in 1945 he was executed by the Communist Resistance units.

    • Winston Churchill - He was an English statesman and author and also Prime Minister of the United Kingdom during WWII. He was a well-known strategist, orator, and politician. He was considered one of the most important leaders in British/ world history. He also won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953.
