Key Events- 1898 US helped in the war to protect its people and businesses in Cuba.
Febuary 15, 1898 war ship US MAINE exploded and sank and US declared war on Spain.
Theodore Roosevelt and his rough Riders (cowboys and college athletes) came down to Cuba to help fight.
How it affected the US.- The US gained control over cuba from Spain and granted it independence instead of making it a US territory. In return the US continued trading goods and creating businesses in Cuba.
