Treaty of Paris

The United States and Spain met in Paris on October 1, 1898 in order

to create a treaty that would ultimately bring an end to the war. On February 4, 1899,

the American and Filipino forces broke out into a fight. Emilio Aguinaldo

led nationalists who sought independence. The United States paid Spain 20 million

dollars so that they could gain possession of the Philippines.

Battle of Manila Bay

On May 1, 1898 the United States attacked and destroyed all of the Philippine

ships. The purpose of this battle was to protect the American Pacific Coast from

any intruders. It was an extremely dangerous attack for the Americans but only six

Americans were wounded while 400 Spanish sailors were killed and 10 ships completely

wrecked.

Battle of San Roque

The United States forces in Manila were attacked by the Filipinos. When the Americans

were alerted about this they realized that they wasted time putting for armed forces in

San Roque but they were ultimately attacked in Manila.

Timeline

May 1, 1898- Let the war begin! The Spanish fleet was defeated in the Philippine lead by Commodore George Dewey.

May-June 1898- American forces continued to hold possession of Manila Bay, Philippines.

June 12, 1898- The Malolos Republic was established by Emilio Aguinaldo and his forces making the Philippine islands an independent nation.

December 10, 1898- The Treaty of Paris was the cause of end to the Spanish-American War. During the meeting of treaty, the United States purchased the Philippine Islands from Spain for $20 million dollars.

February 4, 1899- The Americans and Filipinos were fighting with armed hostilities. Military battles were not much at all.

November 24, 1899- Control of central Luzon was secure controlled by the United States. This was a major island of the Philippines.

June 21, 1901- A plan was announced by General Mac Arthur that pledged "complete immunity for the past and liberty for and liberty for the future" to Filipinos who surrendered though most didn't except.

March 23, 1901- Emilio Aguinaldo was captured by the Americans.

April 19, 1901- A proclamation was issued which leading to the end of the Philippine Insurrection.

July 4, 1902- War was declared.
