How It Started

In 1978 the communist People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan gained power in no other than, Afghanistan. Within months, opponents of the communist government launched an uprising and a civil war broke out. One side was the anti-soviet, Mujahideen forces and the other was the government. The president of Pakistan supported the Mujahideen, while the Soviet Union gave support to the PDPA. Due to America's anti-Soviet stance and their desire to be involved in everything, in 1979 the U.S. launched Operation Cyclone to finance the Mujahideen
