What if the Doctrine was nonexistent?

The American diplomatic ideology was still in its early stages during the 1820’s. Cutting relation ties with the European powers was the first step for the new world. The doctrine barred European nations from further colonization of the Americas. The document stated the U.S government would not interfere with European colonies that already existed within the U.S. If any European power travelled outside the boundaries, the united states would most likely retaliate with war or respond aggressively. If it was compromised it could have inhibited the expansion of the U.S in the future. It was feared the South America and Islands within the Caribbean would once again fall victim to European rule. It was imperative that Latin American trade networks remains free and clear to ensure successful development of the U.S.
