Women in 1898

Women served as spiritual leaders in communities that surrounded them. They even formed their own groups for the elderly and had group leaders. Men always thought of women as being in a higher up position, but women having any say so or any position came to a quick end when Spain arrived. When Spain came women almost became nonexistence and didn't want to express their feelings, thoughts, or how they felt. For example there was a women named Mara Clara that expressed just that. Mara portrayed as a women with low-self-esteem and did what she was ordered or in other words, did what she was told to do. There were some other Filipino women that did the opposite, they stood up for what they believed in, said what they thought, expressed how they felt, and fought for independence like everyone else. For example a women that was the opposite of Mara Clara was a revolutionary women named Melchora Aquino de Ramos.
