Queen Liliuokalani was the last queen of the kingdom of Hawaii. After she was arrested and gave up her throne Hawaii’s monarchy was abolished. She was known as a very peaceful queen. Her goal was to preserve their land for the natives.

Samuel Dole was a Hawaiian lawyer during this time period and was seen as an enemy to the kingdom. Although Dole declined to officially be part of the Committee of safety, he helped draft their declaration. Dole played a big part in the westernization of Hawaiian government and culture.

William McKinley was the president that signed a joint resolution annexing the islands. Just like when Texas joined the U.S in 1845.
