The Big Fours

In the Paris Peace Conference 1919, the Big Four was composed of Woodrow Wilson of the United States, David Lloyd George of Britain, and Georges Clemenceau of France.

France - Georges Clemenceau

Georges Clemenceau was the French representative at the Paris Peace Conference in 1919. He pushed for a revenge-based treaty at Versailles, hampering the 14 points. He was trained as a doctor and was nicknamed “The Tiger” because he got into conflicts with Napoleon and others. He disagreed with the Treaty and had conflicts with Woodrow Wilson. He wanted Germany to be humiliated and disarmed.

United States - Woodrow Wilson

Woodrow Wilson first administration. He made the U.S. the most powerful country in the world, and fought to keep the U.S. out of the war. He wanted to be neutral. During his second administration, he asked for declaration of war, associated power of allies, and his ultimate goal was to create a a peaceful coexistence with other nations. He created the Federal Reserve, Federal Trade Commission, Clayton Antitrust Act, progressive income tax, lower tariffs, women's suffrage (reluctantly). He also negotiated the Treaty of Versailles and sought 14 points post-war plan -the League of Nations (but failed to win U.S. ratification). He ultimately won a Nobel Peace Prize.

Britain - David Lloyd George

David Lloyd George was Britain's prime minister at the end of World War I. His goal was to make the Germans pay for the other countries' staggering war losses. He was part of the conference that drafted the Versailles Treaty. He also established the Irish Free State but ended his career in scan.
