When & How the War Started

It started because of our previous involvement with Vietnam in 1954. There was already an ongoing conflict between the two. The French then came along and fought against the Viet Minh in a battle and lost it was the battle Dien Bien Phu in May 1954. That lead to the 17th parallel that split leaving the northern part to Ho Chi Minh and the southern part to Bao. Ho Chi Minh tried to take full control of Vietnam. That was bought the decision of going to war to protect the southern part of Vietnam from any attacks.
