In January of 1918, President Woodrow Wilson gave a speech to the American Congress. During that speech he presented fourteen points in an attempt to promote peace that was lost during World War One. In his speech, Wilson stated that the world must be fit and made safe to live in. Wilson focused on countries who practiced isolationism and had the desire to live life like they wanted to as a nation. This would be successful if the other countries were able to determine their own institutions,and have assurance that they will be treated with justice and dealt with fairly by other countries.
