History of Vietnam

In the year of 1954 a war erupted between Southern and Northern Vietnam. The problem stemmed from Northern Vietnam, also know as the Viet Cong, when they began invading the South to push their communist views on other people. At first the French were the ones who were helping to defend the Southerners from the Viet Cong, however, the French peacefully withdrew after one of their defeats. Shortly afterwards the United States entered into the war to strengthen the Southern militia and stop the communist views from spreading to other countries. At first only U.S military advisers were sent to Vietnam but after an attack was made on the U.S Navy around 80,000 troops were sent to South Vietnam within the year. In 1973, all of the U.S. military was removed from Vietnam. The Southern Vietnamese government fell and Vietnam become one communist country.
