Treaty of Paris

On October 1, 1898 in Paris commissioners from both the United States and Spain met to make what would officially stop the war after six long months. The people for the Americans consisted of Cushman K. Davis, William R. Day, William P. Frye, Whitelaw Reid, and George Gray. The Spanish people consisted of Don Eugenio Montero Rios, and the senate of the president and a French person Jules Cambon. The Americans negotiated for a hostile atmosphere. The conflict was about the Philippines. The Spainsh commissioners said that Manila surrendered so it could not be war conquest. The United States gave Spain $20 million to have control over Phillipines. Also in the Treaty of Paris Guam and Puerto Rico were given to the United States to be under their control. Spain let go of Cuba to be an Independent country, The Treaty of Paris was signed December 10, 1898.
