The Person Behind The Speech

Woodrow Wilson was born on December 28, 1856 in Staunton, Virginia. He became the 28th president in 1912. He led America through World War I and felt war should no longer exist and he created the speech to spread world peace and safety. Wilson decided to view public opinion behind his vision for U.S foreign policy. He traveled eight thousands miles on the train to give forty speeches in twenty nine cities during a three week speaking tour. Wilson was not alone on the train, he was with twenty one journalists that wrote daily stories on the trip. The trip was a little too much for Wilson because of his previous medical problems. He gave his last speech on September 25 before collapsing from physical exhaustion. The president watched the Senate reject the U.S membership in the League of Nations.
