Six Day War: Yom Kippur War:

The leaders of each of these nations new they would have to choose sides not just between the Arabian Republic and Israel but the larger entities in the Soviet and U.S. governments that backed either side. The leader of Egypt Anwar Sadat, threatened war a number of times in an attempt to lower Israel's expectation that they would attack. Leaders in the League of nations including the U.S. sought out a peaceful solution however the Soviets refused and proceeded to air lift supplies to the Arabian Republic. This lead the U.S. to send an air lift to Israel, which resulted in the defeat of the Republic.
