After 20 years of battle, many soldiers and civilians on both the Vietnamese and American sides were killed in a line of battle. A little over half a million (536,100) U.S. soldiers were deployed to Vietnam, 58,220 of them were killed, 303,644 were wounded. The average age for the United States soldier was 19. About 1.2 million North Vietnamese military personnel was killed and close to a million civilians were killed as well.
