José Doroteo Arango Arámbula

(Pancho Villa)

José was born on June 5, 1878 in San Juan Del Rio Mexico. HE was the son of the late Agustín Arango and Micaela Arámbula poor peasants that lived in what is now called the Casa Del Pancho Villa in the largest largest haciendas (a large estate or plantation with a dwelling house) in the state of Durango. Pancho Villa was one of the most prominent generals of his time and was the commander of Division del Norte and only suffered two losses throughout his career. Also he was the provisional Governor of Chihuahua before he died ion July 20, 1923. Source

Jose Marti

(National Hero)

José was born in Havana in 1853 to Spanish parents Mariano Martí Navarro and Leonor Pérez Cabrera. Young José was followed by seven sisters and was the only boy. n 1869 José’s writing got him in serious trouble for the first time. The Ten Years’ War (1868-1878), an attempt by Cuban landowners to gain independence from Spain and free Cuban slaves, was being fought at the time, and young José wrote passionately in support of the rebels. He was convicted of treason and sedition and sentenced to six years’ labor. He was only sixteen at the time. The chains in which he was held would scar his legs for the rest of his life. His parents intervened and after one year, José’s sentence was reduced but he was exiled to Spain. Source

Jose Santos Zelaya

(President of Nicaragua)

Zelaya was of Nicaragua's liberal party and enacted a number of progressive programs, including improving public education, building railroads, and establishing steam ship lines and enacting constitutional rights that provided for equal rights, property guarantees, habeas corpus, compulsory vote, compulsory education, the protection of arts and industry, minority representation, and the separation of state powers. However, his wish for national sovereignty often led him to policies contrary to colonialist interests. Source
