1803-1811

In 1803, the British started capturing American sailors and forcing them to work on their ships. In 1806, James Madison delivered a report regarding the malicious actions of the British. Later, in June of 1807, a British ship fired upon an American ship named "Chesapeake", which caused an international stir. Because of this, Thomas Jefferson imposed a trade embargo on Britain in December. The embargo carried too many negative effects for the US however, so it was discontinued the next year. In that year, 1809, James Madison was elected as the 4th President of the US. After these events, the War Congress convened in 1811, and eventually there was a battle with a Native American leader named Tecumseh, who would later become allied with Britain during the upcoming war.
