Without piracy, overseas trade between countries became more safe and protected. Trade had also become more cost-effective, since the tribute payments were eliminated. The Barbary Wars gave the rest of the world the chance to view how the United States handles problems that do not occur on their homeland. A glimpse of America's first foreign policy decisions was shown to the whole world from these wars.
