How It Affected the United States - Foreign Policy

The first Barbary War was America's first foreign war as a young nation. The war gave the United States' navy a chance to further develop, but more importantly introduce foreign policy. The first Barbary War raised the question of America's international involvement and how the U.S. foreign policy would be like. The war shaped the way the United States would handle future international situations, such as the second Barbary War and so on. The first Barbary War was important because of this, as well as giving America the chance to test out their navy. The United States showed other countries what their nation is capable of by giving a first impression to other countries. Another outcome from the Barbary wars is that the United States would be able to trade with other countries while being protected and without paying any kind of tribute.
