Hey Everybody,
Good discussion at last nights BoD meeting on our F.P. insurance issues.
In response to a comment/suggestion made at yesterdays meeting, one step our committee can take right now via email is this: do we want to restrict our committee work to just resolving the Workman's Comp issue, or do we want to widen our scope and include other insurance issues (O&E, A&P, R&R, Q&A, JCP&L, etc.....)?
My instinct is still to Keep it Simple, See It Big, and do a single issue focus on Workman's Comp. Tackling one big complex issue like Workman's Comp. Insurance, doing a complete investigation, and presenting a comprehensive balanced report to our Board, is a lot of work. I'm not sure adding on these other complex issues listed above would be the best way forward.
Thoughts?

As I said last night, I think our next step should be to consult an agent (or a broker, to use Jay's term). We should give them the background about who we are and what we do, and let them propose a package of insurance products that would be appropriate for our needs. So I think we might as well talk about the big picture in that conversation. Otherwise, we'll just have to go back for a second talk in the future.
I was part of a conversation like this when I worked for a small video production company, and I know there are all kinds of risks you can choose to mitigate with different kinds of policies and riders. So I think in the end, I think building a good insurance portfolio for The Folk Project would be simpler if we didn't break it into smaller activities.
Also agree with another point that Jay made. It's true that if we do drop Workers' Comp, we're wasting $200 a month between now and the time we make that decision. But if we're exposing ourselves to even bigger risks by not having some kind of Directors & Officers policy, we shouldn't delay action on that.

Hi,
I think we should focus on the one issue of Workman's Compensation and figure out what to recommend to the full board.
If our considerations lead us to believe that this issue cannot be sufficiently dealt with without considering a wider solution than just whether or not to pay for WC, then we should report that to the board and see how they would like us to proceed.

I think we're having enough difficulty grappling with the Work Comp question without delving into other types of insurance, so I'd like to stick with just Work Comp for now. However, if a situation arises as we're investigating Work Comp where we're talking to someone who has some knowledge of both, we may want to raise the question. We're almost certainly going to be investigating D&O and E&O insurance at some time in the future and it couldn't hurt to collect some information while we have an expert in front of us. Likewise, if we're talking to an agent about prices, we may as well ask if we would get a price break if we took both types of insurance with them.
In short -- let's focus on Work Comp but take advantage of opportunities to learn more about D&O and E&O when they present themselves.

I agree with George. First things first....this committee should look at WC.
