On the afternoon of February 6, Swingin' Tern hosted a Remembrance for Joel Remde. Members of three dance groups--Swingin' Tern, the Morristown Folk Dance and Joel's Skandinoje dance--eulogized Joel, conducted many dances in many styles, and ate a lot of food in his memory. Over 100 people attended from at least six dance groups. It was delightful, sad and fun.
Also on February 6, Swingin' Tern hosted an evening contra dance featuring Alexandra Deis-Lauby calling to Gotham Groove. Attendance was excellent and the performers were splendid. Many contributions in Joel's memory were made.
On February 20, Bryan Suchenski called to Squeeze Play. Many beginners attended and the experienced dancers remarked on the high quality of the calling and the band's excellence. Bryan is an excellent caller and Jody Kruskal's bands are always a big hit.
The next big event, and it will be huge, is on March 5. Swingin' Tern will host a double dance (afternoon experienced, evening for all) to celebrate Bob Isaacs' sixtieth birthday. The whole day is being sponsored by Bob. There's no admission and Bob is encouraging contributions in support of Swingin' Tern. Anyone attending who is familiar with our venue is encouraged to park diagonally across the street at the senior center, as our normal lot will otherwise overflow quickly.
Excluding any overhead allocation, the financial gain for February was $200 (due to contributions in Joel's memory). Last year's FP unallocated overhead was approximately 5% of total admissions. Based on that 5%, ST's monthly financial gain was $150. [It would be easy to argue that ST should be allocated less than 5% of its admissions because insurance could be obtained for the dance at less cost than than ST's pro rata share of FP's bill, but in the spirit of making the allocation easy and not splitting hairs, I've used 5%.]
On this basis, ST's financial contribution so far this year is roughly $190. This is a good estimate of ST's financial contribution to FP for January and February.
