The Swingin Tern Committee Report for February 4:
An auspicious start to the year--the thirtieth anniversary dance was the highlight. Admission was the same $3 it was for the first dance in 1984.
Over 120 dancers came to hear Folk Project callers and Hog Wild--a top local band whose members often appear at ST. Because of the attendance, despite the retro admission price, ST/FP had to chip in less than $100 for this celebration.
The anniversary dance is always a big night, and this was ST's most important anniversary yet. In recognition, Xander individually thanked the people who volunteered the most over the past year. Joel recognized long-term ST dancers. Suzanne previewed some of the special afternoons and evenings she's lined up for thie coming year.
The big presentation was Doug's. He awarded certificates of appreciation and honorary passes to Tom Banwell and Don Flaherty, who for 30 years have been engineering the sound for ST. An indispensable contribution.
On January 18 dancers were treated to Celador, a touring band everyone enjoyed and a band we all hope comes our way again soon. Sue Gola called for her first-ever full evening, which had been eagerly anticipated by dancers around the region. The result was another well attended dance--over 80 dancers.
For the month, ST's dances were $160 in the black, out of which $25 was spent to upgrade the First-Aid kit. So, the month was a success financially, but that was the least of it.
