Newsletter Committee Report 2014-01
After receiving instruction and files from Liz, I began working on the January edition of the newsletter shortly after the December board meeting. It took 3 times longer to produce the newsletter as I had originally estimated, mostly because I had to work out the workflow for not just the entire newsletter, but also for each of the recurring sections. Each section has its own zen that needs to be understood: what information needs to be updated? who sends updates? where do you go for information from the web? should some sections be done before others? who do you send the results to for distribution? what are the formats for distribution? etc.
Pat Brangs was very helpful in catching errors in the Minstrel flyer and the final newsletter. Having some proofreaders check the documents before they are sent out is very useful. Nancy Kelner has also agreed to help with the proofreading duties going forward.
Pat also reduced the number of paper copies of the newsletter for physical distribution to 330. This will result in further cost savings for the Folk Project. She mailed out 189 copies to members, with the others distributed to the usual places: Minstrel, Morris Arts, Eddie, Carl, etc.
The next newsletter should go a lot faster now that the workflows and design parameters have been worked out.
