ANNUAL REPORT
The pandemic curtailed most of our activities this year. The one big thing to report is that we provided sound under the Folk Project banner to the joint project drive-in outdoor concert put on by the town of Madison and the Folk Project on Saturday, July 25. Our part (sound reinforcement) was to design the sound system and provide the equipment to put concert level sound on a one-acre parking lot, then build it, operate it and break it down at the end. We managed this successfully to the praise of all the audience. And the equipment we needed was supplied out of “what we had lying around” No need to purchase or rent any additional equipment.
Another project we have going is to improve the audio mix for the camera for various broadcasts from MUUF. I have come up with a solution that allows an individual to independently mix the camera audio without the interference of the sound in the room. I was proving the effectiveness of this when the pandemic shut us down.
One last project was to source a high channel count mixer for the rare show that requires more than 16 mic inputs. We occasionally book an act that requires more that 16 mic inputs, perhaps once a year or so. The latest was the David Bromberg Band. His act requires 24 mic inputs. It also requires 9 mix outputs for floor monitors and in-ear monitors. We sourced one 32 input mixer for his show which was shut down for safety considerations one week before the show night. Since then I have sourced a second 32 input mixer that could be used for the same purpose. Both of these are loaners and would not entail any rental costs.
I am looking forward to the pandemic restrictions being lifted, allowing us to get back to making and presenting music.
