Mark Schaffer thanked everyone for their responses to the death of his mother. He spoke about the love his mother had for the Getaways and the care and consideration everyone gave her when she attended. He added that she was a great lady and FP added a lot to her 102 years.
Jean Scully reported that she and Dave drove out to California and spent four days in Yosemite which was absolutely amazing, and then spent another four days on the Central coast of California visiting Dave's father. brother and other family members. On one stretch of the ride home, they ran into a section of the road which had been washed away. Fortunately, it was still daylight, because had it been night, they probably would not have seen it. They had to turn around and drive about an hour and a half to find an alternate route. Mark Schaffer added that her son Von and his fiancee taped a wedding ceremony (the wedding has not yet occurred) which they played for Mark's mother on her deathbed. The whole family really appreciated that.
Peggy Karr reported that she attended the shiva for Mark's mother and found it quite touching. She also reported that she had an afternoon of music at her house which attracted a small but great group. She is also finally seeing her Lyme doctor after waiting three months.
George Otto reports that he is in Maryland visiting his mother and celebrated her 100th birthday with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed the get-together. His mother was in a competition with her sister who also made it to her 100th birthday.
Mike Agranoff had a concert at the Hurdy Gurdy that came off quite well. This is the first major venue he has appeared at since the Pandemic, and he drew the largest crowd of the season. Among the attendees was John Forsythe.
Sam Edelston will be running two private showcases at NERFA next month. One of them is called "Decent Exposure" for people who do not have a lot of other showcases. He mentioned that it is rare to have open showcases. the other is called "Anything But Guitars" to promote alternate instruments.
Pamela Zave reported that at the end of August and the beginning of September she and Yolanda went to Europe for a business conference in Amsterdam and then for a vacation in Switzerland. One highlight was an Alpenhorn and accordion performance. After the performance, the performers asked anyone if they wanted to try the Alpenhorn and Yolanda was one of the volunteers.
