Hello Everyone,
Attached is the Profit and Loss year to date.
The finance department had a few upsets this past month. Gary who is in charge of E-Commerce has asked to be replaced. With Membership and his running the StayAway concerts it was too much for him to keep up with. First, let me say Thank You Gary for all the hard work and effort you have put in. We are starting to look for someone to replace him. Below is a job description Chris wrote. If anyone is interested or knows of someone please let me know. I will be putting this in the next News Letter. I thought I would start here.
The E-Payments Manager
This is not a board position and attendance at board meetings is not required. Estimated work requirement is three hours per month. The E-Payments Manager is responsible for:
Taking formal ownership of the Folk Project’s PayPal account.
Managing the PayPal account, analyzing transaction logs and preparing venue-specific monthly reports for the Bookkeeper.
Issuing refunds on request of the venue chairs.
Responding to any PayPal questions from the venue managers.
Looking into enhanced PayPal reporting capabilities, to reduce the need for out-of-system Excel analysis.
Skills and Experience
Prerequisites for this position are:
Access to a personal computer and an Internet connection
Proficiency in the use of Excel for data analysis
In addition, the successful E-Payments Manager will be:
Well-organized, thorough and attentive to detail
Finally, the following would be considered desirable, in decreasing order of importance:
A genuine interest and demonstrated willingness to participate in the activities of The Folk Project
Previous service on the Folk Project board
We also had some problems with balancing the checkbook and getting some things posted to the right places. I want to thank Chris for stepping up to get this sorted out. It was a huge task getting us back on track. Chris says we are current and ready to rock and roll.
Given some some of the problems we have had I decided to contact a friend of mine who was my trusted Accountant for many years for Peggy Karr Glass. I needed some advice and I think it may be a good idea for the Folk Project to have a professional to depend on. My doing the Taxes was to expedite something that needed to get done. I am not an accountant. These are important documents that need to be done correctly. He will be giving me some advice and an idea of what his services would cost for our Non-Profit Organization. He said his firm has a sliding scale to help accommodate us. I will hopefully have more to tell you at our next meeting. We also talked briefly about bookkeeping and keeping our finances on track. Its a big complicated job that may be beyond expectations for the volunteers we can get. Something I think we need to explore.
I would also like to start thinking about how the pending legislation s.836 may impact us and start to look at possibilities of how we could deal with it. I also think we need to start talking about how Covid is effecting us financially. It could go on for another year or more. We currently only have StayAway which does not bring in any income. Our only other income is donations and membership. We need to start looking at the big picture. Im not saying we have to take any action right now but I think it deserves some conversation and thought. We may need to reinvent ourselves a little bit. I think it would be a good idea to put together a small team so we can start to explore some of these issues in depth both financially, legally and logistically.
Well, that was a lot to digest.
