Ad Hoc Technology Awareness Committee Report 2014-10

The Tech Awareness Committee met on September 16th at Chris Riemer's house.

In attendance were Lori Falco, George Otto, Chris Riemer, Mark Schaffer of the core committee and, Alan Kugel, and Cecilia Rowedder of the support group. Absent were Jean Sculley of the core group and Joanne Cronin of the support group.

We are beginning to focus on our final report, based on our previous meetings and ongoing discussion. There is a lot of technology that we could address, but to be practical we will probably recommend only a few social media outlets (2 or 3) for the Folk Project to focus on. This should allow the FP message to be presented reasonably consistently across these official outlets and involve a minimum number of people to be responsible for them. Individual committees could use other outlets as they saw fit, but such efforts would be less official and might only be used by for certain functions. The Meetup.org channel might be an example of such a less official channel.

One item we discussed was what our target demographic should be. Many social media channels are successful with 18 to 35 year olds. The committee felt this was perhaps too young for the Folk Project to focus on and that young people who come to the Minstrel, for instance, often do not stay for the whole show for whatever reason. Perhaps we should instead target a somewhat older crowd, say 30 to 45 year olds, for our social media efforts.

More next month

Sincerely,

George Otto
