The Swingin' Tern report -- July 2021
On July 17, we had our first dance in several centuries (of days... it
only seemed like years). Bob Isaacs called to the Contra Rebels. The
performers have all been closely associated with Swingin' Tern over the
decades, and they were as delighted as the dancers to be at our first
dance back.
The dance itself was a smashing success. We counted 129 people in attendance.
It was also a free dance. Contributions were encouraged in a no-pressure
way. We started receiving some before the dance itself took place.
Counting everything back into July, after all dance-related expenses we
cleared $1008. We'd spent some of it already on upgrading the equipment
and ventilation.
The star of the announcements was our volunteer coordinator, Virginia
Nordberg. She has been diligent, dedicated and determined for many years
now. We are privileged to have her and made that clear during the
announcements.
We are frequently in contact with the church and have a good relationship
with them. The parish house where we dance has some new tenants, and there
are some complications about the use of the floor. Dealing with the other
tenants has been very easy and smooth, and we're confident everything can
be worked out.
Today we canceled the August 7 dance. Our key volunteers were polled over
the last couple days and there was a mild consensus to cancel, although
there were strong feelings on the other side. I was initially neutral
until looking more closely at the data, and I wound up believing that
holding it would have been justified.
We will decide about holding the August 21 dance over the next couple weeks.
