Ad Hoc Technology Awareness Committee Report 2014-08
The Tech Awareness Committee had its first meeting on July 14 at Chris Riemer's abode.
All members of the committee--both the core and support groups--were present, and there was a full discussion about our collective view of what the committee should be about and the kinds of recommendations that should be in the final report.
There was general discussion about such items as
1) if we were looking at the various social media systems as tools that would guide us to build a social media program, or whether it was better to first decide what we wanted to accomplish and then see what tools would further those goals,
2) if we opened up to engage our audience, showing that we are listening to them, by having a area for comments or a blog on our Web site, and what the problems might be if someone posted bad comments,
3) recognizing the the Folk Project mostly proceeds by having champions of various initiatives, and what that means if we have many champions for different social media outlets for presenting consistent or coordinated messages, or what happens if a champion leaves.
The discussion was more wide-ranging than this, but the above indicates the kinds of issues the committee is considering. Also, the above is not meant to provoke a discussion at the Board meeting (which is what the committee is responsible for), but private comments and contributions of ideas to the committee members along these lines are always welcome.
It should also be noted that Chris Riemer has set up a space in the Folk Project Back Office for the committee to share documents as we continue these discussions.
More next month
Sincerely,
George Otto
