An overall very good month at the Minstrel. Our average paid attendance for March was 113.5 for regular shows, 100.6 if we include the Open Stage. Buskin and Batteau joined the Comma Club (fee of over $1,000) with an attendance of 150. What's particularly encouraging is that we had 105 for the little-known Spuyten Duyvil and even pulled 49 for the Open Stage. The proof of the pudding will come in April when we have no shows with a particularly well-known act. Over the past 12 months, our attendance is up about 10 (about 12%) over the previous 12 months. We came in $1010 in the black for March, and $3015 in the black for the 12 months ending in March..
March's two-fer offer through Jersey Arts garnered 3 takers. There was only 1 last month. We'll see what happens when we make the offer again on April 20 for the Don Henry / Craig Bickhardt split bill and then make decisions on whether to continue the program.
After a couple of months of trying to recruit an after-show gathering at the Urban Table, we've abandoned the effort as not really catching on.
No progress has been made in getting the Minstrel-Grams transferred over to Constant Contact.
I had asked MUF if they would waive our rent for the Thursday May 3 movie night. They responded that they would charge us only a custodial fee of $20 / hour, or $80 total instead of our customary $225 / show. I feel that is very reasonable.
Bookings made in March:
· June 22: The Folk Goddesses (who opened for Rich Deans in February) and The Loose Canons opening
· June 29: Chasing June (opening for Caleb Hawley)
· Sept. 7: Roger Deitz (opening for Bill Staines)
· Sept. 21: Luke Liddy (opening for Christine DeLeon)
· Sept 28: Fiona Tyndall (opening for April Verch) Very nice singer of traditional Irish & Scots songs we picked up at an Open Stage.
· Oct. 26: Finest Kind
After having seen Brother Sun at Hurdy-Gurdy, I'm designating their appearance at the Minstrel on November 30 as an Agranoff Imperative.
Highlight for April: I think the Don Henry / Craig Bickhardt show will be a sleeper to watch.
