Subject: FP Technology Awareness Committee
Hi Folks,
It it time to organize the ad hoc Technology Awareness Committee that was created at the last FP Board Meeting. The purpose of the committee is to think about emerging technology that might be useful for the Folk Project, allowing us to better run the organization, connect better with our audience, and make use of new opportunities to attract newcomers.
Based on the comments made at the meeting, it is clear that there are two levels of commitment to the committee. Some are interested in the broad scope of the issues involved, and others are more focused on one particular area. I would therefore like to propose a two-tiered organization of the committed to reflect this:
Core Group: this group would consist of members who are interested in addressing the broad issues of our charter:
Lori Falco
George Otto
Chris Riemer
Mark Schaffer
Jean Sculley
Support Group: this group would consist of members interested in participating when their area of interest was discussed or expertise was needed:
Joanne Cronin
Allan Kugel
Cecilia Rowedder
Is this about right?
Second, I'd like to pull together an initial set of ideas of technology we should be considering and what the benefits might be. We already have the example of Jean's getting us on board with Twitter and seeing how the FP can fit into that ecosystem. What else should be on our agenda? At this initial state I think we should be a bit Blue Sky and include ideas in our list before worrying about how practical they might be. For example, I might want to add "the FP should create a mobile app" to the list without caring at this stage about how difficult it might be. Or maybe we should just list technologies we should evaluate.
So, here is my initial list. Please add to it as you see fit.
Technologies
Social Media
Instragram
Vine
Mobile devices
Web app
Native app
Web
Maintain the FP entry in Wikipedia
Create IFTTT recipies for others to use
Projects
Create FP mobile app
Send out Vine videos of every FP event
Lastly, I think we can use technology to help the committee do its work. A lot of this discussion can be done via email with only the occasional need for an actual meeting.
What do you think? And welcome to the committee!
