Subject: June 2015 Minstrel Booking Report
A middling month was June for the Minstrel. An average attendance of 75 paid (102.3 total) attendance for regular shows left us with a meager $150 profit for the month. We are, however, $2319 in the black for the past 12 months. (Interestingly our paid attendance of 88.8 for the past 12 months was exactly the same as that for the previous 12 months.)
The EastRiver Chinese Ensemble show on June 5 was an experiment in presenting a type of show outside of our usual fare. As a stand-alone example, it was not particularly successful. Despite a laudible effort from the Publicity committee to reach the local Chinese-American population, we only had 52 paid attendees. However, EastRiver did quite well for themselves, as the creel contained amongst all the singles and fives a check for $500. The Toby Walker show with the Personal History of the Blues was very well received.
New Bookings in June:
• Sept 18: Frank & Hank to open for Geoff Muldaur
• Sept 25: Matt Arons to open for Tom Chapin. Watch this 17 year old kid. Really brilliant guitarist and singer. Possible feature in the cards for him.
• March 4: Guy Davis: Acoustic blues guitarist and singer
• March 18: Orrin Star: Flatpicking guitarist.
• Also, The No Fuss & Feathers Road Show, scheduled for Oct. 2 has had to postpone to sometime TBD in April 2016.
Highlights for July
• July 17: Huxtable, Christensen, & Hood: Well loved by the more longstanding members of the Folk Project, but not known by the current crop. This female vocal harmony trio was sort of the Red Molly of the 80s. They are having a revival tour, and you'd do well to catch their show.
• July 31: Silk City.
• And, of course, the sold-out Paxton 40th Anniversary show on July 25.
